Collective Sharing and Generation of Knowledge

Summary
Collective sharing and generation of knowledge is the idea that all information is being processed at ever increasing speeds and that the internet has revolutionized the way that all young children today can learn provided that they have an internet connection. Collective sharing is the when a group brings knowledge together without holding back knowledge only one person may possess for the better of the entire group. Web sites, such as wikipedia, allow for topics to be updated constantly, so they never become outdated or irrelevant. In addition, people from around the world can edit, creating a global perspective. Many such websites are accesible free of charge, which allows everyone to view them. Many colleges are applying this idea to college divisions focused on global warming production and consumption. This trend is gaining a more prominent role in today's society, in fact 36% of online Americans consult wikipedia.(1)

Areas of Impact

Education

CSGK Education wiki
Collective Sharing is something that has become indispensable in the field of education. It ranges from a broad amount of ages in which a new type of learning has come into play. We will now learn in new and more interactive ways than ever possible. The easy of communication and collaboration will be discussed and how we are building upon each other as students and colleagues. Collective sharing can be seen in the Horizon Project in which a vast number of students have all been collaborating with each other trying to generate new information that shows new possibilities for the future in many topics. Each of these investigations will be done in different countries and the fact that its all for the Horizon Project will show how diversity is just what collaboration needs. Even though a lot of technology is being used there is still the need for good communication skills and efficient contribution.

Government, Politics and Employment

CSGK Gov/Pol/Employ wiki
Colllective sharing is often used in government and politics. It helps to reveal the needs of the people, and therefore the necessary actions. For example, problems like medical needs for animals and humans, preservation of the earth, education, and more can all add into his subgroup. Governments can access databases, sharing intelligence in order to best understand issues, solving them in a way that will help everyone. Some websites that aid in governmental/political (inclusive of employment) collective intelligence include bseinquiry.gov and my-collective.com.

In terms of Employment, businesses can easily use collective sharing on an everyday basis in order to make working in an environment more collaborative and effective. Businesses can use Googledocs in order for coworkers to collaborate and give each other feedback on their work. Businesses can also use Wikispaces in order to keep up with dates and times for a business. If there were to be any problems, an employee can simply add to the Wiki that they will not be able to make as opposed to using e-mail. Or for example, there is a major deadline due and it requires many employees, something like Googledocs and the discussion tab on Wikispaces would make it easy for employees to communicate.
